COLROADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Taylor Johnson has been named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week for competition completed through Sunday, November 8. It is the first weekly honor of Johnson's career.
The senior from Fountain Valley, Calif., led San Diego State to a 1-1 record on November 7 with a win over New Mexico (208-92) and a loss to Washington State (161.5-132.5). She won two individual events and swam on two relay teams during that meet.
Johnson captured first place in the 50-yard freestyle with the second-fastest time in the Mountain West this season of 23.15. She also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.26. second- and sixth-best in the MW this season respectively.
In addition, Johnson was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team that set an Aztec Aquaplex record with a time of 1:33.07. That mark is the fastest in the conference this season and ranks 17th in the nation.
Johnson also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that placed second with a time of 1:44.58.
Up next for the Aztec swim team is a trip to College Station, Texas, to compete in the Art Adamson Invitational at Texas A&M during the weekend of Nov. 19-21. The SDSU divers, meanwhile, will be in Tucson, Ariz., from Nov. 20-22 for the annual Wildcat Diving Invitational at the University of Arizona.
