SAN DIEGO -
SDSU Men's Basketball Preseason Accolades
Athlon Sports has projected the San Diego State men's basketball team to earn a bid to the 2016 NCAA Tournament in its college basketball 2015-16 preview magazine, which is on newsstands now. The publication has the Aztecs in the Midwest Region and reaching the second round.
In addition to earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament, the magazine has SDSU taking first place in the Mountain West ahead of second-place finisher Boise State.
Individually, Athlon tabbed senior forward Winston Shepard as a first-team all-MW selection, while sophomore forward Malik Pope was selected to the second-team. Senior forward Skylar Spencer, meanwhile, was named the league's "Best Defensive Player" a season after being voted the MW Defensive Player of the Year.
True freshman guard Jeremy Hemsley, who is listed at No. 73 among the magazine's Class of 2015 Top 250, was also highlighted in Athlon's Recruiting Roundup by 247Sports as a four-star guard.
The back-to-back Mountain West regular-season champions, who return three starters, will enter the upcoming campaign fresh off their sixth straight NCAA tournament berth. SDSU is one of eight schools nationally to have reached the NCAAs six years in a row and one of nine programs in America to reach the Round of 32 three straight seasons. Overall, San Diego State finished 2014-15 with a 27-9 record (14-4 Mountain West), its 10th consecutive 20-win campaign and seventh straight with at least 23 victories.
