OKLAHOMA CITY - San Diego State catcher Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) helped the USA Junior National Team to a gold medal at the XI WBSC Junior Women's World Championships last week in Oklahoma City. USA outscored its opponents, 119-6, en route to finishing 10-0 at the JWWC, including an 8-1 win over Japan in the gold medal game on Saturday.

Peres played in seven games, batting .350 (7-for-20) with four RBIs, six runs and four doubles, posting a .435 on-base percentage and a .550 slugging mark. She was also perfect in the field in 73 chances.

"I can't speak more highly of this team," USA JNT head coach Tairia Flowers said. "The way that they all came together at the beginning of summer at training camp has been amazing. We were together for a long time this summer, which sometimes can be good or bad. They definitely grew and figured out how to win together. The way that they approached the tournament was amazing. Every pitch I felt we were locked in and everyone contributed. I'm extremely proud of them."

It was the fifth JWWC title for USA, matching Japan for the most in the history of the competition. On the year, the USA JNT finished 14-4 in international competition at the World Cup of Softball X and the XI WBSC JWWC.

Peres appeared in five games for the USA Junior National Team at the World Cup of Softball X last month, batting .250 (2-for-8) with a homer, RBI, four runs and a walk, owning a .625 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base percentage. Additionally, she was perfect in the field in 10 chances. The USA Junior Women went 3-4 in the round-robin format, before defeating Mexico, 6-5, in the fifth-place game on July 5.

Last year at SDSU, Peres hit .347 (58-for-167) with nine home runs, 48 RBIs, 30 runs and 11 doubles, while posting a .575 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base mark. She was a second-team all-NFCA West Region selection, the MW Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-MW pick in 2015.
