SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State men's soccer team captain Daniel Steres is set to face FC Barcelona when the Los Angeles Galaxy plays host to the European and Spanish League champions on Tuesday, July 21, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The contest is set for 8 p.m. PT on FOX Sports 1.

Steres played at Montezuma Road from 2008-11, and was the program's first two-time team captain in five seasons. Over his career, he started 67 of his 71 appearances and posted 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists.

A standout on the pitch and in the classroom, Steres was a 2011 NSCAA all-Far West First-Team pick, a three-time Pac-10/12 selection, including a first-team honoree as a senior, and a two-time Pac-10/12 all-academic performer. In 2012, he was taken by Chivas USA with the ninth pick in the second round of the MLS Supplemental Draft before being selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the MLS Waiver Draft.

In other men's soccer news, four Aztecs are currently competing in the Premier Development League (PDL) with a pair of squads. Aleks Berkolds and Rene Reyes are with the Seattle Sounders FC U-23 team, which is in a tie for second place in the Western Conference Northwest Division. Ozzie Ramos and Travis Nicklaw, meanwhile, are both on the FC Tucson roster, which is atop the Mountain Division of the Western Conference.

The Aztec men's soccer season will begin with a friendly on Thursday, Aug. 20, when it welcomes cross-town foe San Diego to SDSU Sports Deck. San Diego State's season will officially get underway on Saturday, Aug. 29, when Grand Canyon visits Montezuma Road. Both games are set for 7 p.m. PT starts.
