EAGLE ROCK, Calif. -
Alexa Evans won the discus throw to pace the San Diego State track and field team at the Oxy Invitational Saturday in Eagle Rock, Calif.
Evans took first-place honors in the discus with a toss of 172 feet, 9 inches (52.66 meters), beating out 16 other entrants in the process. She also tied for fifth in the shot put with a heave of 45-05.75 (13.86m).
Kortney Ross added a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing 13-03.50 (4.05m) in an event that featured 20 entrants. That mark equaled a best for her at SDSU and is tied for the eight-best mark in program history.
Jasmine Burrell also had a good showing in the discus, coming in third at 164-06 (50.15m).
In the hammer throw, Freja Liljedahl (170-08 (52.03m)) and Victoria Dickerson (162-08 (49.58m)) took sixth and ninth, respectively.
The Aztecs only had two runners compete on the day, both in the 1,500 meters. Melissa Wendorf led the way in 4 minutes, 50.56 seconds, good enough for 36th in the race, while Cali King was 45th in 5:06.71.
SDSU plays host to the Mountain West Championships this weekend, beginning Wednesday with the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon.
