The San Diego State track and field team looks to make it three straight outdoor titles when it plays host to the 2015 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in San Diego. The four-day meet begins Wednesday with the heptathlon.

The Aztecs have won each of the past two titles (2013 and 2014) after taking seventh in 2010, and fourth in both 2011 and 2012 under head coach Shelia Burrell. SDSU placed third at the indoor meet in February.

Returning all-MW performers include seniors Kristen Brown and Jasmine Burrell. Brown won both the 100 hurdles (13.37) and pole vault (12-10.25 (3.92m)) a year abo, and ran a leg of the runner-up 4x100-meter relay (45.14) to finish in second. Her performances led her to advance to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds where she tied for first in the pole vault after clearing 13-07.00. Meanwhile, Burrell took earned all-league honors by taking second in the discus throw (179-04 (45.67m)) and third in the shot put (50-00.75 (15.26m)).

Shelia Burrell was also named the 2014 Women's Coach of the Year by the conference.

Heading into this year's meet, Simone Glenn leads the field with a time of 23.48 seconds in the 200 while Micha Auzenne (13.32) and Brown (13.36) hold the top-two times in the 100 hurdles. The 4x100-meter relay team composed of Jazmen Bunch, Ashley Henderson, Auzenne and Glenn has the top time this season at 44.91. In the pole vault, Bonnie Draxler (13-09.25) sits at No. 1, while Brown (13-09.00) follows closely behind at No. 2. Alexa Evans (174-6) and Jasmine Burrell (172-8) are seeded second and third, respectively, in the discus throw.

The meet kicks off with the heptathlon at noon PT Wednesday with day two set for 12:30 p.m. PT Thursday. The hammer throw will start things off Friday at 11 a.m. PT and will be conducted on the campus of UC San Diego. Field events will continue at SDSU Friday with the long jump starting at noon PT and the 10,000-meter run ending the day at 6:50 p.m. PT. The javelin throw and 4x100 starts Saturday at 10 a.m. PT, while the meet closes with the 4x400 at 2:30 p.m. PT.

Heading into the weekend, the Aztecs have 11 athletes currently in the top 48 of the NCAA West Regional. The top 48 individual athletes in the west region in every event but the heptathlon qualify for the NCAA West Regional Preliminary Rounds in Austin, Texas, from May 28-30. The top-12 finishers in each event at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds then advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 10-13.
