LOS ANGELES -
Jasmine Burrell, Rachel Alesi and Alexa Evans took first, second and third in the discus throw to lead San Diego State Friday at the UCLA Legends of Track & Field Invitational in Los Angeles. Ariel Oliver also came in fifth in the discus for the Aztecs on the first day of the two-day meet.
Burrell beat out 11 other entrants with a toss of 168 feet, 4 inches (51.32m). Alesi came in second at 167-00 (50.91), which was the seventh-best mark in program history, while Evans was third in 161-11 (49.36m) and Oliver came in fifth in 143-08 (43.81m).
In the hammer throw, Victoria Dickerson took fourth out of 13 with a heave of 171-08 (52.34m) and Freja Liljedahl was eighth (162-11 (49.66m)).
On the track, Lily Seynaeve finished the 5,000 meters in ninth out of 24 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 3.27 seconds. Rachel Roesgen also competed and took 16th in 18:31.87.
Most of the team will compete on Saturday, beginning with the long jump at noon PT and ending with the 4x400-meter relay at 5:40 p.m. PT.
