Walnut, Calif. - Seven Aztecs placed among the top 10 at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday for the San Diego State track and field team. The Aztecs were among the 13,500 competitors at the prestigious event which took place at the historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College.
In the pole vault 'A' section, Bonnie Draxler set a new collegiate-best mark with a mark of 13 feet, 9 1/4 inches (4.20m) and Kristen Brown was right behind in sixth at 13-03.50 (4.05m). Draxler's mark was good enough to tie Erin Asay's 2006 height for the fifth best in program history.
In the pole vault 'C' section, Kortney Ross took the title after clearing 13 feet, 3 ½ inches on her first attempt. Holly Waseloff matched Ross' 13-03.50 performance, but was awarded second place after successfully clearing the height on her second try. The senior's effort marked a career best and is tied for the eighth-best mark in school history with two others. Karen Snapper, meanwhile, cleared 12-09.50, which was good for fifth-place in the 14-person field.
On the track in the 100-meter hurdles, Micha Auzenne and Kristen Brown posted impressive performances, placing among the top 10 in a field of 41 competitors. Auzenne finished in third with a time of 13.52 seconds and Brown posted the eighth-fastest time, clocking in at 13.57.
Tyra Lea and Dynasty Gammage competed in the final events of the day for San Diego State. Lea finished in 26th place out of 60 total entrants in the 400 meters with a time of 55.49. Gammage came in 35th in the 800 meters, passing the finish line at 2:13.84.
The Aztecs will continue action at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday. SDSU is set to compete beginning at 1:25 p.m. PT.
