SAN MARCOS - Freshman Simone Glenn placed first in the 100 meters and 200 meters to pace the San Diego State track and field team Saturday at the Cal State San Marcos Mangrum Invitational.
Glenn beat out 36 other entrants in the 100 meters with a time of 11.84 seconds, which marks a new personal-best in her first season competing at the collegiate level. The Atlanta, Ga. native also took first in the 200 (32 entrants), passing the finish line at 23.48 seconds and putting her at No. 7 in SDSU's all-time rankings.
Madison Gipson, Ellison Grove, Bonnie Draxler and Jasmine Burrell also won individual events for the Aztecs. Competing against 29 other participants, Gipson ran a career-best time of 55.94 in the 400 and later claimed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.21 finish. Grove crossed the finish line at 2:10.20 and took first out of 32 other competitors in the 800. Draxler led the pack in the pole vault after clearing 13-00.25 (3.97m), while Burrell claimed first on her second attempt with a heave of 49-09.75 in the shot put.
The Aztecs also posted two runner-up finishes for the day which included Jazmen Bunch in the 100 (12.06) and Tyra Lea in the 200 (24.16).
SDSU prepares for a busy weekend ahead as it sends a handful of athletes to the Mt. SAC Relays April 16-18 in Walnut, Calif., the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., on April 17 and the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif. on April 18.
