SDSU 4, BOISE STATE 0

SAN DIEGO - The No. 60 San Diego State men's tennis team kept its momentum going on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 65 Boise State, 4-0, on a warm, sunny day at Aztec Tennis Center.

SDSU (8-4, 1-1 MW) has won four-consecutive matches against ranked opponents, and improved its unblemished home record to 8-0 this dual season. The Aztecs also avenged last season's road loss to Boise State (5-9, 1-1), as San Diego State is 13-2 in its last 15 Mountain West regular-season matches.

In doubles action to begin the day, SDSU earned the first two victories to seal the doubles point. The Aztecs' No. 3 duo of senior Andranik Khachatryan (Burbank, Calif.) and sophomore Marko Goles-Babic (Zagreb, Croatia) defeated Boise State's team of Brian Foley and Abe Hewko, 6-3, before SDSU's No. 1 unit of junior Freddy Gelbrich (Isernhagen, Germany) and sophomore Hendrik Jebens (Stuttgart, Germany) knocked off Toby Mitchell and Garrett Patton, 6-3.

San Diego State's No. 2 team of senior Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany) and sophomore Jonas Meinzer (Buggingen, Germany) was unable to finish its match, as they trailed 5-4 once the Aztecs won the doubles point for the fourth-straight dual match.

SDSU was able to carry its success over to singles play, as Goles-Babic earned a straight-set victory on the No. 4 court over Foley, 6-1, 6-3, and sophomore Milen Ianakiev (Elz, Germany) pulled the Aztecs within one point of the dual-match win with his victory on the No. 5 court against Lewis Roskilly, 7-5, 6-2.

Jebens clinched the dual-match decision by topping Mitchell on the No. 3 court, 6-4, 6-4, lifting San Diego State to its fourth win in its last five matches overall. With the match decided, Gelbrich was in a tight No. 1 singles battle with Patton that went unfinished, 1-6, 6-1, 4-2, while Bertsch was in a close No. 2 singles match with Tenreiro, 6-2, 2-6, 1-1, and sophomore Saxon Buehning was in the third set in No. 6 singles against Hewko, 6-1, 3-6, 1-3.

San Diego State resumes dual play on Wednesday, March 11, when the Aztecs play host to William & Mary, beginning at 2 p.m. PT.
