SAN DIEGO - Three athletes garnered three top-five finishes to pace a small contingent of the San Diego State track and field team Saturday at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet.
Sophomore Tyra Lea finished first in the 200-meter run, defeating 21 others with a time of 24.74 seconds, which edged Amber Rosario (25.22). Competing in the 800 meters was junior Chelsea Kruthers, who earned 12 points for SDSU and secured a spot on the podium after running the event in 2:15.86. Freshman Jasmine Young, who entered in the 400-meter hurdles came close to beating Bethel's Paige Thielen and hung on to come across the finish line in fourth place at 1:07.94.
Meanwhile, junior Rachel Roesgen placed sixth in a group of 35 running the 1,500 meters and marked a season-best performance at 4:45.13. The mark bested her last weekend's result of 4:45.90 at last weekend's SD Collegiate Challenge held at the UCSD campus.
San Diego State looks to welcome some of the top collegiate teams and athletes in the country when it hosts the 37th annual Aztec Invitational March 26-28. All events will be held at the AzTrack at SDSU Sports Deck except for the invitational and open hammer throw competitions, which will take place on the campus of UC San Diego on March 26.
