SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team competed in its first outdoor meet of the season at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge in La Jolla, Calif., and recorded multiple top finishes in several of the day's events.

Hosted by UC San Diego, the meet ultimately ended with a victory for the Tritons after they posted 197 points. San Diego State finished a close second with 181 points for its effort. Following the Aztecs were Point Loma (90), Southwestern (60), Cal State Dominguez Hills (51), Cal State San Marcos (43), Palomar (28), San Diego Mesa College (22) and Cuyamaca (14).

Starting the day strong for the Aztecs was Starlyn Singleton, who placed first in the long jump (17 feet, 9 ½ inches), putting 10 points on the board for SDSU.

Micha Auzenne turned in two top performances, finishing first both in the 100-meter dash (11.79 seconds) and the 200 meters (24.38). Also adding to the team's success was Kristen Brown, making her outdoor debut with a first-place finish in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.69) and the pole vault (13-09.00).

Freshman Simone Glenn won the 400 with an impressive time of 56.51 and fellow teammate Ashley Henderson finished a close second at 56.79. San Diego State also claimed the top-3 places in the 1,500 after performances from senior Dynasty Gammage (4:44.13), junior Rachel Roesgen (4:45.90) and junior Chelsea Kruthers (4:46.86).

Seven Aztecs competing in the pole vault was also a highlight. Ensuing Brown's first-place performance, senior Kortney Ross (second) followed suit clearing 13-03.50, while freshman Bonnie Draxler and junior Karen Snapper tied for third after vaulting 12-11.50. With Ross' effort, she improves and moves up in SDSU's all-time outdoor rankings, tying for 6th with Monica Pacas' 2008 performance.

In the shot put, redshirt sophomore Rachel Alesi won the event with a toss of 45-09.00. Not far behind her was Ariel Oliver in second, throwing 44-09.50 and finishing third was Alexa Evans with a 44-00.50 heave. Evans went on to improve in the discus event with a mark of 174-06 and moving her to the No. 5 spot in SDSU's all-time rankings. Meanwhile, Alesi tossed a 164-06 which puts her at No. 7, making the list for the first time.

Victoria Dickerson led the way in the hammer throw, tossing a remarkable 171-10 which landed her in fourth among San Diego State's all-time top-10 outdoor rankings.
