COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The San Diego State softball team swept the Mountain West weekly awards, with senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) being named the MW Player of the Week and sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) being selected as the MW Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today. It was Jordan's first career MW weekly award and Romero's second (both this season).

The duo helped the Aztecs (15-8) to a 4-1 record at the Judi Garman Classic over the weekend in Fullerton, Calif. SDSU picked up wins over Pacific, Iowa, Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton, with its only loss coming to No. 3/2 Michigan.

Jordan batted .600 (12-for-20) with six RBIs, six doubles, four runs and two stolen bases over the five games (all starts). She led San Diego State in batting average, at-bats, hits, doubles, RBIs (tied), total bases (18), slugging percentage (.900), on-base percentage (.600) and stolen bases (2), while posting a perfect fielding percentage in three chances.

Jordan began her weekend with a single and a run vs. Pacific on Friday. She was 2-for-3 with an RBI double vs. No. 3/2 Michigan and 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs and two doubles vs. Iowa on Saturday. On Sunday, Jordan was 3-for-4 with a double and stolen base vs. Long Beach State and 3-for-5 with an RBI, run, two doubles and a stolen base over Cal State Fullerton.

On the season, Jordan is batting .408 (29-for-71) with a homer, 10 RBIs and 19 runs. She leads the Aztecs in multiple categories, including batting average, runs, hits, doubles (8), triples (1), on-base percentage (.488) and stolen bases (8), while committing just one error in 16 chances (.938 fielding percentage). Jordan is one of just two SDSU players to start all 23 games this year and currently has a 10-game hitting streak.

Romero, meanwhile, was 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA over four appearances (all starts), pitching 28 of the team's 33 innings. The right-hander struck out 22 against nine walks, limiting the opponents to a .277 batting average. San Diego State won every game she pitched in over the weekend.

Romero got the win vs. Pacific on Friday, allowing two runs on eight hits (all singles) and three walks over seven innings, while striking out five. She picked up another win on Saturday vs. Iowa, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings, striking out five. Romero saved her best for last, pitching all 14 innings of the Aztecs' back-to-back victories over Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton. Against LBSU, she allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks over seven innings, while striking out six and stranding eight baserunners. In the nightcap vs. CSF, Romero scattered three runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks over seven innings, striking out six.

On the season, Romero is 13-5 with a 3.11 ERA over 110 1/3 innings (of the team's 151 innings). She has 71 strikeouts against 39 walks, limiting the opponents to a .271 average, while posting three shutouts. The 13 victories are tied for the second most in the country.

The Aztecs co-host the 15-team, 36-game San Diego Classic II this weekend, beginning Thursday with games against Brigham Young (4:30 p.m. PT) and Long Beach State (7 p.m. PT) at SDSU Softball Stadium. The rest of the tournament will be held at Sportsplex USA Santee in Santee, Calif., where SDSU is scheduled to play Baylor at 7 p.m. PT Friday and Santa Clara at 7 p.m. PT Saturday.
