COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five San Diego State divers competed on the 1-meter springboard on Tuesday at the Zone E Championships being hosted by the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. A total of 56 athletes were vying for one of eight spots at next week's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Freshman Alexandra Caplan was the Aztecs' top finisher as she advanced to the finals after posting a score of 270.75 in the prelims, good for 13th place. With final scores determined by combining the prelim and finals round marks, Caplan totaled 557.10 to secure 10th place. That finish made her the second alternate for the NCAA meet as she missed qualifying outright by just 6.75 points.
Fellow freshman Makena Chamoures had SDSU's second-best finish on the day as she placed 28th with a score of 250.20 in the preliminary round. Shannon Finigan captured 46th place with her score of 226.75 in the prelims.
San Diego State's other competitors on the 1-meter board included Isabelle Choquehuanca, who finished 48th with a mark of 221.15, and Nicole Dutton, who placed 50th with a 218.75 point total.
All five Aztec divers will compete on the platform on Wednesday (March 11) as the Zone E Championships concludes its three-day run. Prelims on the platform are slated to get underway at 11:00 a.m. (MT) with finals set for 1:00 p.m. (MT).
