FRESNO, Calif. - No. 12 San Diego State opened Golden Coast Conference action with a 16-3 victory at Fresno Pacific. With the victory, the preseason GCC favorites improved to 4-2 (1-0 GCC), while the Sunbirds fell to 1-7 (0-1 GCC).

Alyssa Diacono scored the first two goals of the game in the initial 91 seconds and Nikole Ferrari added one of her own to help SDSU take a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. Mallory Retig got FPU on the board a couple minutes into the period, but the Aztecs responded with single goals from GCC Player of the Week Anique Hermann and Ioli Benekou to lift the visitors to a 5-1 lead at halftime.

San Diego State broke the game wide open in the third quarter, outscoring the Sunbirds, 6-1, in the frame. Alex Hoetker scored two of the Aztecs' first three goals of the period, with Taylor Gums recording the other. Ferrari added her second of the game and was followed by Nika Sedghi's first goal of the season to give SDSU a 10-1 lead. FPU's Julia Ponce temporarily stopped the Aztecs' run, but Sedghi helped San Diego State get the goal back with her second of the night with 42 seconds left in the quarter.

The final eight minutes was more of the same for SDSU as it notched another five goals while bleeding just one. Scoring in the period for San Diego State was Ferrari, Makena Magro, Bridgette Kimbrough, Elizabeth Bilz and Courntey Jarvis. The lone FPU goal was posted by Kaitlin Fletcher with 3:05 left in the contest.

The Aztecs return to action on Saturday when they compete in the FPU Mini Tournament. SDSU will face No. 1 Stanford at 11:30 a.m. PT before taking on No. 17 UC Santa Barbara at 3:30 p.m. PT.
