SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Jonas Meinzer (Buggingen, Germany) earned the dual match-clinching victory on the No. 6 singles court on Friday afternoon, leading the San Diego State men's tennis team to a victory over Cal Poly, 4-3, on a cloudy day at Aztec Tennis Center.

SDSU (3-1, 0-1 MW) improved to 9-2 all-time against Cal Poly (2-1) and has won four of the last five meetings. In addition, the Aztecs have won five-consecutive home matches going back to last season, as well as five-straight non-conference matches.

San Diego State began the day by winning the doubles point to take an early 1-0 advantage. The Aztecs' No. 3 doubles team of seniors Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany) and Andranik Khachatryan (Burbank, Calif.) defeated Cal Poly's unit of Ben Donovan and Karl Enander, 6-2, before SDSU's No. 1 duo of junior Freddy Gelbrich (Isernhagen, Germany) and sophomore Hendrik Jebens (Stuttgart, Germany) topped Garrett Auproux and Lucas Lesoeur, 6-4.

The No. 2 doubles match between SDSU's team of sophomores Marko Goles-Babic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Meinzer led Corey Pang and Devin Barber, 5-3, but were unable to finish once the Aztecs clinched the doubles point.

In singles action, Bertsch dropped his match on the No. 1 court to Donovan, 6-0, 6-2, but Gelbrich put SDSU back on top by earning a No. 2 singles victory over Pang, 7-6 (3), 6-2. The Aztecs took firm control of the match, 3-1, when Goles-Babic notched a win on the No. 3 court over Auproux, 7-6 (6), 6-4.

However, Jebens fell short in his No. 4 singles match to Lesoeur in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, and sophomore Milen Ianakiev lost a hard-fought match in the No. 5 slot to Naveen Beasley, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, knotting the dual match at 3-3. That's when Meinzer came through in the clutch, rallying to defeat Enander on the No. 6 court, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

San Diego State returns to the court on Sunday, as the Aztecs hit the road to face UC Santa Barbara, beginning at noon PT.
