LOS ANGELES - Just as it did on Saturday on the 3-meter board, San Diego State sent four divers to the finals of the 1-meter competition at the UCLA Invitational. Once again Aztec freshman Alexandra Caplan was SDSU's top finisher a she ended the afternoon in fifth place.
A total of 40 athletes representing nine schools participated on the 1-meter board with the top 18 in the prelims advancing to the finals session.
Caplan finished in fourth place at the end of the prelims with a score of 278.05. In the finals she turned in a mark of 282.30 with her point total of 560.35 good for fifth place.
The Aztecs' second finalist was another freshman, Makena Chamoures, whose score of 242.00 in the prelims and 245.40 in the finals gave her a total of 487.40 as she captured 10th place.
Sophomore Shannon Finigan also advanced to the finals after a prelim score of 233.20 put her in the 16th spot. She added a mark of 233.055 in the finals to improve to a final ranking of 13th with a total score of 466.25.
Isabelle Choquehuanca was SDSU's fourth qualifier out of the prelims as she turned in a score of 237.06 to place 13th after the opening six dives. She went on to finish 18th overall with a mark of 199.05 in the finals.
San Diego State also had a pair of freshmen in the 1-meter competition. Payton Gabris' score of 213.85 allowed her to finish in 26th place while Nicole Dutton finished 27th with a prelim mark of 207.700.
The Aztecs will conclude action at the UCLA Invitational on Monday, Jan. 19, on the platform. Prelims are set to get underway at 10:00a m. (PT) with finals to follow at 12:45 p.m.
