LOS ANGELES - San Diego State sent four divers to the finals of the 3-meter competition at the UCLA Invitational with freshman Alexandra Caplan capturing a team-high sixth-place. The three-day meet is being hosted by the Bruins at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles through Monday.
A total of 36 athletes representing nine schools participated on the 3-meter board with the top 18 in the prelims advancing to the finals session.
Caplan finished in ninth place at the end of the prelims with a score of 261.80. In the finals she turned in a mark of 285.80 with her point total of 547.60 good for sixth place.
Sophomore Isabelle Choquehuanca was SDSU's top finisher in the prelims as she was fourth with a score of 279.85. Her mark of 255.70 in the finals gave her a total score of 535.55 and 10th place overall.
The Aztecs' third finalist was freshman Makena Chamoures, whose score of 251.15 in the prelims and 260.00 in the finals gave her a total of 511.15, good for 12th place.
Sophomore Shannon Finigan also advanced to the finals after a prelim score of 242.80. She added a mark of 220.55 in the finals and placed 18th with a total of 463.35.
San Diego State also had a pair of freshmen in the 3-meter competition. Nicole Dutton's score of 225.00 allowed her to finish in 22nd place while Payton Gabris finished 26th with a prelim mark of 221.00.
The Aztecs continue action at the UCLA Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 18, on the 1-meter springboard. Prelims are set to get underway at 11:00a m. (PT) with finals to follow at 1:45 p.m.
