LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Freshman Alexandra Caplan captured third place on the 3-meter board at the Trojan Diving Invitational Friday afternoon at USC's Uytengsu Aquatic Center. Fellow Aztec Isabelle Choquehuanca also advanced to the final round and finished 12th. A total of 30 divers took part in the event.
Caplan, from Mission Viejo, Calif. (Mission Viejo HS), turned in a score of 302.15 in the finals to take third behind USC's Haley Ishimatsu, who scored 318.65 points. Caplan had also finished third in the prelims with a score of 304.55, a mark that ranks as the fourth-highest ever by an Aztec diver.
Choquehuanca, a sophomore transfer from LSU who hails from Laguna Beach, Calif. (Santa Margarita Catholic HS), placed seventh in the preliminary round with a score of 267.75. Her score in the finals was 258.05.
Three other Aztecs took part in Friday's competition. Freshman Payton Gabris placed 21st with a mark of 220.60 while sophomore teammate Shannon Finigan was 24th with a score of 207.85. In addition, freshman Nicole Dutton's score of 184.65 was good for 27th place.
Actions continues at the Trojan Diving Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 8) with the 1-meter board competition with prelims beginning at 11:00 a.m. and finals at 2:15. Makena Chamoures, making her Aztec debut will join SDSU's other five divers for the event.
