SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee notified San Diego State Monday that it will host the second and third rounds of the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl. It will mark the fourth time in 17 seasons that San Diego State and its on-campus arena have served as a host for the men's basketball tournament.

San Diego State will serve as the host institution. The Aztecs will not be eligible to play in San Diego should they qualify for the NCAA Tournament next season.

The games are scheduled to be played Friday, March 16, and Sunday, March 18, at Viejas Arena in 2018, although the dates are not finalized at this time. Eight teams will play in four games in the second round. Four teams advance to play in the third round with the winners in those two games advancing to NCAA regional competition.

This marks the fourth time that San Diego State and its on-campus facility have hosted the men's basketball championship. In 2001, 2006 and 2014, SDSU and Viejas Arena (formerly Cox Arena) played host to the NCAA first and second Rounds.

Other second- and third-round sites in 2018 include Charlotte (Time Warner Cable Arena), Pittsburgh (CONSOL Energy Center), Detroit (New Detroit Arena), Nashville (Bridgestone Arena), Dallas (American Airlines Center), Boise (Taco Bell Arena) and Wichita (Intrust Bank Arena).

The 2018 Final Four will be played at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Ticket information for the San Diego site will be announced at a later time.
