SAN DIEGO - Members of the San Diego State women's water polo team recently visited with fourth graders at Palomar Elementary School in nearby Chula Vista. The purpose of the trip was to inspire and educate the class of 2027.
"Our student-athletes are ideal role models for young students," head coach Carin Crawford said. "It's really important for our players to do this good work of getting out into the community and sharing their experiences with kids about the importance of working hard in school, getting a college education, and beyond that, how playing water polo in college has opened doors of opportunity and enriched their college experience even further."
While at Palomar, the SDSU student-athletes fielded two questions from each student and discussed their experiences from playing water polo at a young age, to earning a scholarship to their current athletic and academic experience at San Diego State.
At the end of the Aztecs' time at Palomar Elementary, the fourth graders, decked in SDSU t-shirts, ended the session by performing the "I Believe" chant that is often heard at San Diego State athletic events.
SDSU is coming off a 2014 campaign that saw it win the first-ever Golden Coast regular-season championship before posting a 23-12 record and finishing 17th in the final top-20 poll. San Diego State will be in action on Jan. 17, when it plays host to the annual alumni game at Aztec Aquaplex.
