SAN DIEGO - Coming off its first postseason berth in the program's three-year history, San Diego State women's lacrosse head coach Kylee White recently announced the Aztecs' schedule for the upcoming 2015 spring season.
The schedule features four contests against 2014 NCAA Tournament participants, including season-opening road games at Elite Eight qualifier Florida on Feb. 20, and at Atlantic Sun champion Jacksonville on Feb. 22. The Aztecs will play host to eight home contests at Aztec Lacrosse Field, including a matchup against reigning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) champion Denver on April 10, a rematch against Big South Conference foe Winthrop on March 18, and games against fellow 2014 MPSF Tournament qualifiers Colorado on April 12, and USC on April 25.
"I think we have a great schedule lined up for the 2015 season," head coach Kylee White said. "Starting off on the road with highly ranked out-of-conference opponents will not only set the standard of play for the year, but will help prepare us for an extremely competitive MPSF conference.
"It's exciting to have some new competition on the schedule, while also getting the chance to take on some past opponents."
San Diego State begins its 2015 campaign on the road with a stretch of five-consecutive games away from The Mesa. The road trip begins with two games in Florida, as SDSU takes on the Florida Gators on Friday, Feb. 20, before playing at NCAA Tournament participant Jacksonville on Sunday, Feb. 22.
The Aztecs begin MPSF play the following week, when they head to the Pacific Northwest to take on MPSF rival Oregon on Feb. 28. From there, SDSU travels to Fresno, Calif., for a neutral-site game against Campbell of the Big South Conference on March 6, before resuming MPSF action against Fresno State on March 8.
SDSU then returns home to begin a four-game homestand at Aztec Lacrosse Field, starting with its home opener against Liberty on Friday, March 13, beginning at 7 p.m. PT. The Aztecs play host to MPSF foe California on March 15, welcome Winthrop for the second of a home-and-home series on March 18, and wrap up the homestand with an MPSF contest against St. Mary's on March 22.
The Aztecs head to the East Coast on spring break for a two-game road trip against Ivy League opponents, as San Diego State takes on Yale on March 28, before playing at Brown on March 31.
From there, SDSU heads into the final stretch of its season with five-consecutive contests against MPSF rivals, four of which made last season's MPSF Tournament. The Aztecs play host to reigning champion Denver on April 10, before a rematch of the 2014 MPSF first-round contest against Colorado on April 12.
San Diego State travels to Northern California the following week to take on last season's MPSF No. 2 seed and NCAA Tournament participant Stanford on April 17, before facing UC Davis on April 19. The Aztecs conclude their regular-season schedule at home against USC on April 25, before MPSF Tournament play begins on April 30 in Denver, Colo.
In addition to making its first postseason appearance last season, the Aztecs set several new program records in 2014, including most MPSF victories (4), most road victories (4) and most conference player of the week honors (6). SDSU returns 13 players who started at least five games last season, while its 2014 recruiting class features four All-Americans, four all-State selections and three transfers from other Division I programs.
