TULSA, Okla. - The San Diego State men's tennis doubles team of junior Freddy Gelbrich (Isernhagen, Germany) and sophomore Hendrik Jebens (Stuttgart, Germany) split two matches in the qualifying draw of the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday at Case Tennis Center.
Gelbrich and Jebens earned a victory in their first-round match against the 43rd-ranked Penn State duo of Alex Fennell and Leonard Stakhovsky in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 7-5, but fell in the second round in a three-set battle to TCU's team of Arnau Dachs and Guillermo Nunez, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (4).
The Aztecs' other doubles unit of senior Thorsten Bertsch and sophomore Marko Goles-Babic dropped its first-round match to North Carolina State's Nick Horton and Thomas Weigel, 6-4, 6-4.
San Diego State will compete this weekend in the SDSU Fall Invitational, beginning on Friday at 10 a.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
