SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State Head Swimming & Diving Coach Mike Shrader has announced the hiring of Stephen Allnutt as the program's assistant coach. He replaces Ben Biefnes, who recently took a position outside of college athletics
Allnutt spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Hawai'i where he worked with the middle distance and IM swimmers on both the men's and women's teams. He also served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Kinesiology Department at UH.
Allnutt attended the University of Hawai'i where he was a swimmer from fall 2007 to 2011. As a senior, he helped lead the Warriors to their first Conference-USA Invitational Championship title. At the conference meet he finished in the top five in all three of his events including second in the 400 IM with a personal best time of 3:59.40.
A native of Forest Grove, Ore., he attended Forest Grove High School where he swam and valedictorian of his graduating class in 2007. He also competed for the Forest Grove Swim Club.
Allnutt became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA while working at Hawai'i. He has also has worked as a coach and counselor at the USC Swim Camp in Los Angeles.
The 25-year-old Allnutt is a 2011 graduate of Hawai'i with a bachelor's of science degree in kinesiology and exercise science. He received a master's degree in kinesiology from UH in 2014 as he completed his thesis on the biomechanics of swimming.
