EUGENE, Ore. - San Diego State incoming freshman track and field athlete Bonnie Draxler (Wrightstown, Wis.) finished 11th overall in the pole vault during the IAAF 2014 World Junior Championships final round on Thursday, with a clearance of 12-feet, 11.5-inches (3.95 meters). Earlier this week, Draxler advanced in the qualifying round after clearing 13-feet, 5.25-inches (4.10-meters).
"What a great (high school) senior season," said SDSU assistant track and field coach Richard Fox. "We are so happy for (Draxler), and we are excited for her to be on campus next month."
A standout at Wrightstown High (Wis.), Draxler finished second in the pole vault at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships earlier this month. She was a four-time WIAA state champion in both the pole vault and in the 400-meter during high school, becoming the first female to win a running event and a field event all four years at the WIAA state meet.
In addition, Draxler won consecutive titles in the 100 during high school, and tied a WIAA state record by winning 10 career titles. She was beaten only once in the pole vault during her high-school career and went undefeated in the 400.
The Aztecs finished in a tie for 12th place at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last month for the program's third-straight top-25 finish.
