SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State baseball team, newly-crowned Mountain West Tournament champion, has been assigned to the NCAA Regional at Louisiana-Lafayette along with the host school, Mississippi State and Jackson State. The Aztecs will face Mississippi State in their opening contest on Friday, May 30, at the Ragin' Cajuns' M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at 1:00 p.m. (CT).

All of the contests at the NCAA Regionals will be televised on one the ESPN network's channels. The channel for the games at the Louisiana-Lafayette Regional will be announced later this week.

SDSU earned the Regional berth after defeating UNLV, 4-3, Sunday afternoon to capture the conference tourney championship for the second straight year and with it the league's automatic bid into postseason play. It marks San Diego State's third postseason appearance since the 2009 campaign when it competed at the UC Irvine Regional. Last season the Aztecs were assigned to the NCAA Regional at UCLA.

The Aztecs will enter the Regional with a season record of 42-19, the most wins by an SDSU team since the 2002 squad compiled 43 victories. During the six games at last week's Mountain West Tournament SDSU compiled a .344 batting average with a 2.67 earned run average and .983 fielding percentage while outscoring its opponents by a 46-17 margin.

The winner of the Louisiana-Lafayette Regional will advance to the Super Regional against the winner of the Mississippi Regional that includes Washington, Georgia Tech and Jacksonville State in addition to Mississippi.
