WOODLAND, Calif. - Five San Diego State women's lacrosse players were named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic Scholar-Athletes, the conference announced on Friday.
Senior Isabelle Pickett (Adelaide, Australia), sophomore Anna Cholewczynski (Rockville, Md.) and juniors Lauren Paul (Grasonville, Md.), Grace Korandovich (Columbus, Ohio) and Bailey Ewing (Reisterstown, Md.) each earned the honor, as the five honorees matches the number of players who received the award for the Aztecs a season ago.
The group is comprised of student-athletes with a 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average, who are at least sophomores, appeared in 50 percent or more of the team's games and had already completed one full academic year at the school prior to this season.
Pickett, one of only two seniors on the 2014 roster, majored in psychology with a 3.85 cumulative GPA and earned the honor for the second-straight season. She appeared in nine games with one start this season, recording two goals, one assist, six draw controls and two caused turnovers. The senior also earned a bronze medal with the Australian National Team in the 2013 Lacrosse World Cup last summer.
Cholewczynski is a chemistry major with a 3.69 GPA. The sophomore defender played in 12 games this season, making one start, tallying four groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Paul majors in public health with a 3.07 GPA. The junior defender was a team captain and an all-MPSF second-team selection this spring, ranking second on the team with 17 caused turnovers and third on the team with 27 groundballs, while serving as the vocal leader and backbone of the Aztecs' defense.
Korandovich has a double major in business management and art, as she holds a 3.20 GPA. The junior midfielder appeared in 15 games with 11 starts, finishing second on the team with 32 draw controls along with 11 goals, two assists, eight caused turnovers and three groundballs.
Ewing majors in business management with a 3.08 GPA, and has earned the honor for the second-consecutive year. The junior attack ranked third on the team with 21 goals this season, while also recording two assists, four groundballs, six draw controls and four caused turnovers.
In its third season in program history, San Diego State made its first postseason appearance in 2014, as the Aztecs set new program records for most conference victories (4), most road victories (4) and most conference player of the week honors (6). In addition, SDSU played four teams that made the NCAA Tournament, and six teams who at least received votes in either the IWLCA Coaches Poll or the Brine Women's Media Poll.
