First-Place Aztec Softball Heads to Second-Place Fresno State This Weekend
The San Diego State softball team heads to Fresno, Calif., for a key three-game series this weekend with Fresno State.

The Aztecs (28-9, 5-1 MW), who are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, will meet the Bulldogs (21-13, 6-3 MW) at 6 p.m. PT Friday, 6 p.m. PT Saturday and 1 p.m. PT Sunday at Bulldog Diamond. SDSU is currently in sole possession of first place in the Mountain West, while FS is tied for second, just 0.5 games back.

At 28-9, San Diego State has matched its best start in school history, joining the 2006 squad.

The Aztecs are batting .304 as a team, which would be a single-season school record if the year ended today, and is led by freshman Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) (.404/.563/.515, 22 RBI, 16 R, 25 BB, 11 HBP) and senior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (.387/.582/.892, 13 HR, 37 RBI, 26 R, 44 BB. Three others - sophomore Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) (.344, HR, 12 RBI, 19 R), senior Dominique Dinner (Monterey, Calif.) (.318, 17 RBI, 15 R, 16 SB) and senior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) (.316, 11 RBI, 21 R) are also hitting over .300 for SDSU.

Sophomore Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) continues to lead the San Diego State pitching staff, going 20-4 with a 1.48 ERA over 147 innings. She has 135 strikeouts against 21 walks, while limiting the opposition to a .225 average. As a team, the Aztecs boast a league-leading 2.34 ERA.
