LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 11th-ranked San Diego State track and field team captured its fourth consecutive title at the Cal/Nevada Championships Saturday in La Jolla, Calif., on the campus of UC San Diego. The Aztecs have now won nine Cal/Nevada titles since 2001.

SDSU won six individual events on the final day of the meet to finish with 178 points. San Diego State defeated runner-up Long Beach State (123) by 55 points. UC Irvine (84), UNLV (75) and Sacramento State (74) rounded out the top five. Altogether, 25 teams scored in the event.

Jasmine Burrell, who on Tuesday was named the Mountain West Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, completed the three-event sweep with wins today in both the shot put and hammer throw to lead the Aztecs. Burrell, who won the discus throw yesterday, beat out 25 others in the shot put with a heave of 50 feet, 2 ½ inches (15.30 meters). She also won the hammer throw (out of 27 entrants) with a mark of 180-03 (54.95m).

Allison Reaser, meanwhile, won the 400-hurdles finals today in 58.78 and was second in the 100 hurdles (13.68).

For their efforts, Burrell and Reaser each took home meet awards. Burrell was named the meet's outstanding field athlete, while Reaser was chosen as the meet's outstanding track athlete for the second straight year. Shelia Burrell was also named the coach of the meet for the second straight year.

Kristen Brown, who yesterday took home first-place honors in the pole vault, won the 100-meter hurdles finals today in 13.62 seconds.

Dynasty Gammage and Chelsea Kruthers each took first in a mid-distance event. Gammage won the 800 finals in 2:11.47, while Kruthers captured the 1,500 (out of 33 entrants) in 4:34.70. Kruthers also came in fourth in the 800 in 2:15.17.

Other athletes who scored for SDSU on Saturday include Nicole Oudenaarden (fifth, 44-10.25 (13.67m)) and Brittany Gonter (sixth, 44-06.25 (13.57m)) in the shot put, Madison Gipson (sixth, 14.30) and Karsen Sper (eighth, 14.42) in the 100 hurdles, Renetia James (sixth, 57.24) in the 400 and Sper in the high jump (tied-seventh, 5-02.25 (1.58m)).

San Diego State returns to action April 16-19 at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays.
