The San Diego State softball team hits the road for the final time of the regular season in a three-game series at San José State in San Jose, Calif.
The Aztecs (34-16, 11-7 MW) will play the Spartans (27-21, 10-8 MW) at 3 p.m. PT Friday, 1 p.m. PT Saturday and noon PT Sunday.
SDSU is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the Mountain West, just one game out of first place. Fresno State leads the league with a 12-6 record, followed by San Diego State, Boise State and Colorado State at 11-7. UNLV (12-9) and SJSU (10-8) are also both within two games of first. The MW regular season champion receives the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
The Aztecs are batting .305 as a team, which would be a school record if the season ended today, and are led by freshman Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) (.372/.520/.481, 1 HR, 30 RBI, 22 R) and senior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (.360/.561/.800, 15 HR, 46 RBI, 34 R). Four others - senior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) (.341, 19 RBI, 30 R), freshman Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside/El Camino HS) (.325, 4 HR, 18 RBI, 19 R), senior Dominique Dinner (Monterey, Calif.) (.321, 23 RBI, 16 R), and sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) (.304, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 32 R) are also hitting over .300 (min. 75 at-bats).
Sophomore Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) continues to lead the SDSU pitching staff, going 25-7 with a 1.67 ERA over 201 innings. She has 165 strikeouts against 35 walks, while limiting the opposition to a .233 average. San Diego State leads the league with a 2.50 ERA.
