Four athletes set San Diego State track and field all-time top-10 marks Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational. Additionally, three athletes picked up wins over the two meets.
Four athletes set San Diego State track and field all-time top-10 marks Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational. Additionally, three athletes picked up wins over the two meets.
At the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Jasmine Burrell, Brittany Bozeman and Karen Snapper each posted Aztec all-time top-10 marks.
Burrell finished seventh in the invitational discus throw with a toss of 181 feet, 5 inches (55.31 meters), which was the fourth-best mark in program history.
Bozeman, meanwhile, took fourth in the open U/O section of the long jump with a leap of 20-01.50 (6.13m), which tied Shana Watson (2008) for the fifth-best mark in school history.
Snapper ended up winning the open-C U/O portion of the pole vault, clearing 13-01.50 (4.00m). That was the 10th-best all-time mark at SDSU.
Kristen Brown also had a good all-around day for San Diego State at the Mt. SAC Relays, winning the open-A U/O pole vault in 13-07.25 (4.15m) and taking seventh in the open U/O 100-meter hurdles in 13.76 seconds.
Shanieka Thomas also cracked the top 10, finishing seventh in the open U/O long jump in 19-06.00 (5.94m).
At the Brian Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., Ariel Oliver won the discus throw (out of 50 entrants) with a heave of 162-11 (49.65), which ranks as the sixth-best throw in school history.
Alexa Evans took fourth in the same discus throw with a mark of 152-08 (46.53m).
Meritzer Williams and Maderia Toatley each cracked the top 10 of the 400 (out of 61 entrants). Williams was fifth in 56.34 and Toatley took 10th in 56.93.
As of press time, the results of the 1,500 (Jessica McCall, Rachel Roesgen and Elaine Ribeiro) and the 5,000 (Grace Hanshaw) were not available.
Burrell and Thomas will each be competing in invitational elite events on Saturday at Mt. SAC. Burrell is entered in the shot put at 1 p.m. PT, while Thomas is slated to make her 2014 outdoor debut in the triple jump at 5 p.m. PT.
