WHAT'S ON TAP THIS WEEKEND IN AZTEC BASEBALL
SDSU will hit the road this week for a three-game non-league series at UC Irvine. The opening meeting between the Aztecs and Anteaters is set for Thursday, Apr. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark. The teams will also hook up for contests on Friday (Apr. 18) and Saturday (Apr. 19) at 6:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. respectively.
SERIES RECORD
San Diego State's record against UC Irvine stands at 49-32-1 since the teams first met during the 1970 season. The Anteaters have won the last six of the last seven meetings between the teams and 12 of the last 14. Last season UCI recorded a 4-2 decision in Irvine on March 12 while the Aztecs defeated the Anteaters in San Diego, 18-2, on April 23. SDSU's last win in Irvine came in 2010 when it captured a 6-5 decision at Anteater Ballpark. San Diego State is 26-17 at home and 23-15-1 away in previous contests against UCI.
FRANCE CONTINUES STRONG
Ty France has hit safely in seven of the past eight games going 13-for-30 (.433) with five doubles, three RBI and nine runs scored. In Sunday's (Apr. 13) series finale at Nevada he recorded four hits including three doubles and played a part in all for of SDSU's runs (scored three, one RBI). It marked the second time this season that he had three doubles in a game. France leads the team (and the Mountain West) in batting average and doubles as well as slugging and on-base percentage. He also tops the team list for multiple-hit games with 18 and multiple-RBI contests with nine.
CEDEROTH SAVES
Since moving to the SDSU bullpen as the closer, junior Michael Cederoth has made 19 appearances and recorded three wins and 13 saves. His 13 saves ranks second in the nation in NCAA Division I entering the week. Opponents are hitting just .160 against him.
HAYNAL GOES DEEP
Brad Haynal connected for his team-leading sixth home run of the season on Tuesday (Apr. 15) vs. UC Riverside. He also had a single in that contest and scored twice. Haynal's six home runs rank second in the Mountain West overall stats. He recorded a career-high six RBI in the win over Air Force on Saturday, Apr. 5.
MUNO RETURNS
Junior first baseman Ryan Muno made his return to the SDSU lineup last weekend after missing SDSU's last 22 contests due to continuing symptoms from a concussion suffered in the game at St. Mary's on March 2. In Tuesday's (Apr. 15) contest vs. UC Riverside he had a pair of hits including a double and scored once.
STEALING AWAY
San Diego State has been successful on 76.1 percent of its stolen base attempts this season (54-of-71). Opponents have a 55.2 percent (16-of-29) success rate. Senior Brad Haynal has thrown out 12-of-27 runners trying to steal on him. Freshman CJ Saylor has caught one of two attempted stolen bases.

Senior second baseman Tim Zier is within striking distance of several San Diego State career marks. He has played in 211 games during his SDSU career and could catch the record of 225 contests by Jake McLintock (2002-05). He is currently second in career at bats with 825. The record is 843 by McLintock. Zier is also third in career hits with 267. The top Aztec mark is 281 by McLintock. His 31 times hit by pitch ranks third, five behind record holder Pat Colwell (2007-09, 11). He is also tied for 13th in career doubles with 40. With 116 career RBI he is seven shy of entering the SDSU all-time top 20 in that category. Evan Potter's 30 career sacrifice bunts is one shy of the SDSU record of 31 held by Steve Dietz (1990-93). Ty France has been hit by pitch 20 times in his career to tie for eighth in the SDSU record book. Michael Cederoth's 206 strikeouts rank 12th on the SDSU career chart. Cederoth's 13 saves tie for the third-most in a season by an Aztec pitcher and tie for the fifth-most in a career.
AZTEC NOTES
SDSU's is currently on a three-game losing streak. Last weekend marked the first time the Aztecs had lost back-to-back contests this season ... Danny Sheehan made his first start of the year at first base on Sunday (Apr. 13) at Nevada and responded by going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI ... The 3-0 win over Nevada (Mar. 9) and 12-0 victory at Cal State Northridge (Mar. 11) marked the first time that SDSU has tossed back-to-back shutouts since 2008 when it blanked Harvard (Mar. 26) and Houston (Mar. 28) at home ... Aztec pinch hitters have gone 5-for-25 (.200) this season. Spencer Thornton has two pinch hits while CJ Saylor, Tyler Adkison and Cody Sos have one apiece ... Ty France is 19-for-40 (.475) with runners in scoring position while Greg Allen is 12-for-26 (.462).
