SAN DIEGO - Jasmine Burrell and Allison Reaser each picked up individual wins to lead the San Diego State track and field team Saturday at the 36th annual Aztec Invitational. The two victories gave the Aztecs five individual titles over the three-day meet, which ended today.
Burrell won the invitational discus throw with a heave of 173 feet, 7 inches (52.92 meters), defeating 20 other entrants in the process. Burrell also finished second in the shot put (out of 19) with a mark of 52-06.50 (16.01m), which was the third-best distance in school history.
Reaser, meanwhile, beat out seven other entrants in the invitational 400 hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 0.02 seconds (1:00.02). The time was 1.59 seconds faster than runner-up Angela Shields (1:01.61) of Brigham Young. Reaser was also fourth (out of 27) in the invitational 100 hurdles in 13.88.
The team scores for the Division I squads were compiled Sunday afternoon and No. 11 San Diego State finished second with 157 points, trailing only No. 2 Oregon's 159, UNLV (149), Brigham Young (102) and No. 7 USC (92) rounded out the scoring for the DI scores.
Brittany Bozeman and Ariel Oliver also logged all-time top-10 finishes for SDSU on Saturday. Bozeman was third in the invitational long jump (out of 27) with a leap of 19-08.75 (6.01m), the ninth-best mark in program history. Oliver came in third in the discus with a mark of 155-05 (47.38m), which ranks 10th all-time at San Diego State.
Kortney Ross, who yesterday won the open pole vault in 12-05.50 (3.80m), tied for second today in the invitational pole vault with a height of 12-06.75 (3.83m).
Other top-seven finishes in the invitational events came from Nicole Oudenaarden in the shot put (third, 44-06.25 (13.57m)), Rachel Alesi in the discus (fourth, 153-07 (46.82m)) and shot put (seventh, 40-07.50 (12.38m)), Chelsea Kruthers in the 800 (fourth, 2:13.57), Madison Gipson in the 100 hurdles (sixth, 14.21) and Alexa Evans in the discus (seventh, 145-03 (44.28m)).
The Aztecs are back in action this weekend (April 4-5) at the Cal/Nevada Championships on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. SDSU has won three consecutive Cal/Nevada Championships.
