PHILADELPHIA - San Diego State senior forward Jordan Ongaro (Edmonton, Alberta) was selected in the fourth round (67th overall) of the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft by the Montreal Impact on Tuesday.
Ongaro is the first Aztec to be drafted by the MLS since both Daniel Steres and Justin Davies were selected in 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, and is the first to be taken in the MLS SuperDraft since Steve Beitashour, Nick Cardenas and Jamel Wallace were each picked in 2010. SDSU has had a player drafted in seven of the last nine years.
The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native led San Diego State in goals scored (10) and total points (21) this season, en route to being an all-Pac-12 first-team selection. Ongaro was second in the conference in points and goals per match (0.53), third in points per match (1.11) and was the first player to score at least 10 goals in a season during head coach Lev Kirshner's 14-year tenure.
The senior forward scored a goal in nine different matches this season, including in four-straight matches from Oct. 5-18. He also scored a season-high two goals against No. 3 Washington on Oct. 18.
