SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State Alumni team defeated the current Aztec squad, 11-10, in sudden death overtime Saturday afternoon at Aztec Aquaplex.

The game was a tight battle throughout with the score tied at 1-1 after one quarter with the contest eventually coming down to the final possessions of regulation.

With the score knotted at 7-7, former Aztec Stacy Werner found the back of the net with six seconds left. On the next trip down for the current SDSU squad, Caroline Israels rattled the cage as the buzzer sounded to force bonus water polo.

In the first extra frame, SDSU scored the only goal to take a 9-8 lead, only to have the Alumni even the ledger in the second. The former Aztecs ultimately earned the win when Samantha Voigt put her shot past the San Diego State goalkeeper in the sudden-death period.

The Alumni were led by Werner and Meghan Poland's four goals apiece, with volunteer assistant coach Sandy Onweller Dielman adding two of her own. Voigt, meanwhile, recorded the most important one: the winner.

For the current Aztecs, Anique Hermann and Alyssa Diacono each registered hat tricks to lead the team. Israels finished with second-most goals with two and Frankie Libutti scored one.

SDSU officially opens the season on Feb. 1 at the Lancer Mini in Riverside, Calif. The Aztecs will face Concordia at noon PT and CSU Bakersfield at 4:30 p.m. PT.
