COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State freshman swimmer Anika Apostalon has earned Mountain West Women's Swimmer of the Week honors for competition from Nov. 13-24, 2013. It is the second Mountain West weekly honor for the Aztec freshman.

Apostalon led San Diego State to a first-place finish at the Arena Invitational last week in Monterey Park, Calif., and was the top collegiate finisher in three individual events, while swimming legs of four winning relay teams. Along the way she set a pair of SDSU records in her individual events.

Apostalon earned NCAA B-cut qualifying times in all three individual events - 22.39 in the 50-yard freestyle; 48.40 in the 100-yard free; and 53.79 in the 100-yard backstroke. She established new SDSU record in the 50 and 100 freestyle and her time in the 100 backstroke was the second-fastest in school history.

Her 100-free time currently ranks sixth in the NCAA and second all-time in the Mountain West. Her 50-free time is 11th in the nation and tied for third all-time in the MW. Her 100-back time ranks sixth all-time in league history.

Her Aztec relay teams posted the best times in the league this season - 200-yard free (1:32.17); 400-free (3:19.88); 200-medley (1:41.99); and 400-medley (3:41.75).

Based on its results at last week's Arena Invitational, the San Diego State swimming team finds itself ranked 23rd in the nation this week as it makes its first appearance of the season in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Top 25. The rankings reflect each team's best performance meets swum over the past four weeks (Oct. 28 - Nov. 23).

The ranking accounts for teams' top performances over the preceding month and is the only objective ranking of swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA and NJCAA. This year's rankings utilize a new point system based on a 1,100 point scale. The new scale uses NCAA time standards and a percentile ranking of all college times over the past four years. The CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 rank teams based on their top performances over the preceding month.

San Diego State swimming and diving will next be in action when it hosts the University of Chicago on Friday, Dec. 20, at 10:00 a.m.at the Aztec Aquaplex. That meet will be SDSU's first home competition of the season.
