SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Juan Florez (Bogota, Columbia) won the Flight 3 singles championship at the Aztec Invitational on Sunday, defeating Loyola Marymount's Daniel Simko, 6-4, 6-3, at Aztec Tennis Center.
With the victory, Florez begins the fall season with a 3-0 record. The senior went 12-11 in singles action last dual season, playing mostly in the No. 5 slot.
In addition, SDSU's duo of sophomore Marvin Tawasi (Mosbach, Germany) and Milen Ianakiev (Elz, Germany) won the doubles back draw on Sunday, knocking off Pacific's team of Miguel Diaz and Denis Stolyarov, 8-5.
