SAN DIEGO -

RED-BLACK ALL-COMERS MEET FLIER

The San Diego State track and field team will host its annual Red-Black All-Comers Meet on Saturday, Dec. 7 on the Aztrack Sports Deck. The meet, which kicks off a 10 a.m. PT, will be the second meet in the San Diego Track Club Winter Track Classic Series.

The pole vault, high jump and shot put (each men, then women) will start the meet at 10 a.m. PT, while the running events get underway at 10:30 a.m. PT with the women's 4x200-meter relay. The rest of the events will following in a rolling schedule with the men's 4x400-meter relay closing the day at approximately 1:05 p.m. PT.

The 2013 Red-Black Meet will be three meets in one. The annual meet serves as a competition that splits the Aztecs into "red" and "black" teams who compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the relay, which includes the coaches, at the end of the meet.

The meet is again a USATF sanctioned all-comers competition where youth, high school, junior college, university (including SDSU students), alumni and master competitors of all ages are welcome to participate in an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability. Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine are also expected to send athletes to this year's meet and the results of that competition with San Diego State will be scored as a tri-meet.

The Red-Black meet uses fully automatic timing (FAT) with wind readings for both sprints and horizontal jumps. All throwers must bring their own implements.

Last year, 191 athletes competed in the meet, which consisted of 15 events. Last year's meet came down to the final two events - long jump and 4x400-meter relay - before the black team came out on top of the red squad by a 64-63 margin.

"The Red-Black meet is San Diego State's official kick off into the winter track season," Aztec track and field head coach Shelia Burrell said. "The event gets bigger and better every year. We're making a number of improvements to increase community, campus and even other institution involvement to keep it moving in the upward direction. SDSU is prepping to win back-to-back indoor and outdoor Mountain West championships and this meet is the first step on that journey. We pride ourselves in providing the greater San Diego track and field community, the student body and especially the alumni the opportunity to join us on that quest, side-by-side on the friendly fields of competition on Montezuma Mesa."

The entry fee for competitors is just $10 and covers unlimited events. Team entries are a max of $250 per team, per gender. Proceeds from the meet will benefit the SDSU track and field/cross country programs. Pre-registration is not required and will be conducted on the day of the meet.

Spectator admission is free to the event.
