COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State swimmer Anika Apostalon has earned Mountain West Women's Swimmer of the Week honors for competition from Oct. 14-22, 2013. It is the first Mountain West weekly honor for the Aztec freshman.
Apostalon led San Diego State to a first-place finish (1,072 points) at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif., last week. During the two-day meet she won the 50-yard (23.52) and 100-yard (51.19) freestyle races, along with the 100-yard (56.51) and 200-yard (2:03.20) backstroke events.
Her 50-free time currently ranks first in the MW. The 100 times each rank second, while the 200 back ranks third. In addition, her mark in the 50 free ranks as the fifth-fastest in school history while her mark in the 100 free is the 10th-best ever by an Aztec swimmer.
Apostalon also swam on three winning relays - 200-yard medley (1:46.00), 200-yard freestyle (1:36.51) and 400-yard freestyle (3:33.43).
San Diego State will next be in action on Friday, Nov. 1, when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, for a dual meet against TCU at noon (CT).
