Stockton, Calif. - The San Diego State swimming team took up where it left off on Friday as it captured six of nine races on the second and final day of the Pacific Invitational at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex in Stockton, Calif. In the process the Aztecs won the team title with a two-day score of 1,072 points. Host Pacific finished second with 911 points with UC Davis (which only swam on Saturday) totaling 565 points.
Freshman Anika Apostalon continued her stellar weekend, winning two more individual events along with swimming the leadoff leg of a winning relay. She kicked off the meet by helping the Aztec 200 freestyle relay, along with teammates Maddy Dalcamo, Taylor Johnson and Chelsea Bailey, to a win in the opening event with a time of 1:36.51.
Apostalon would later go on the take first place in both the 100 freestyle (51.19) and 200 backstroke (2:03.77). Her time in the 100 free enters the SDSU record book as the 10th-fastest time in school history.
Senior Mikaela Macklin took top honors in the 200 individual medley in 2:03.77. She also swam the third leg of the Aztecs' victorious 800 freestyle relay that also included Frida Berggren, Savannah Miller and Dalcamo. In addition, Macklin was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.06 as she was .06 second behind the winning time.
San Diego State's other win came in the 100 butterfly where Loreen Whitfield captured first place with a mark of 55.95.
A pair of freshman took second and third in the 200 butterfly as Carolina Mitchell and Berggren finished in 2:06.23 and 2:07.78 respectively.
Up next for San Diego State will be its first dual met of the season as it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU on Friday, Nov. 1, at noon.
