The 22nd-ranked San Diego State track and field team heads to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the 2013 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. The four-day meet begins Wednesday with the heptathlon at 10:30 a.m. PT.

Under head coach Shelia Burrell's direction, the Aztecs have finished seventh (2010), fourth (2011) and fourth (2012) in the outdoor championship meet. This year, however, SDSU is coming off its first indoor title in program history.

San Diego State returns four of its five all-conference selections from last year's outdoor meet, including Allison Reaser (heptathlon, 400-meter hurdles), Kelsy Hintz (pole vault), Shanieka Thomas (triple jump) and Holly Waseloff (pole vault).

Heading into this year's meet, the Aztecs have best marks in five events. Kristen Brown leads the way with the top marks in the 100-meter hurdles (wind-aided 13.46) and pole vault (14-00.00 (4.27m). Other SDSU leaders are Nicole Oudenaarden in the heptathlon (5,774 pts.), Reaser in the 400 hurdles (58.65) and Thomas in the triple jump (45-01.50 (13.75m)).

Brittany Bozeman, Reaser and Karsen Sper are scheduled to kick things off for San Diego State at 10:30 a.m. PT with the two-day heptathlon. The heptathlon will start Wednesday with the 100 hurdles, followed by the high jump, shot put and 200. Day two begins at 11:30 a.m. PT Thursday with the long jump, ending with the javelin and 800.

The first event for the Aztecs on Friday is the 10,000 at 8 a.m. PT, where Marianne Hogan will compete. Friday will end at 2 p.m. with the long jump (Bozeman, Alex Evans, Oudenaarden and Thomas) and the qualifying heats of the 200 (Antonique Campbell, LaQuisha Jackson and Maderia Toatley).

Saturday starts at 10 a.m. PT with the high jump (Carrington Mahr, Oudenaarden and Sper), while the meet concludes with the 4x400 relay at 3 p.m. PT (relay pool consists of Campbell, Jackson, Thomas, Toatley and Brown).

SDSU still has plenty of athletes ranked among the top 48 in the NCAA West Region (the top 48 in every individual event but the heptathlon (top 24 in the country go directly to the NCAA Championships) and the top-24 relays will advance to the NCAA West Regional Preliminary Meet in Austin, Texas, from May 23-25) heading into the MW Championships. Thomas is ranked second in the triple jump, Brown is seventh in the pole vault and 19th in the 100 hurdles, Reaser is 13th in the 400 hurdles and 25th in the 100 hurdles, Deyna Roberson is 16th in the 400 hurdles, Oudenaarden is 18th in the long jump and 37th in the javelin, Hintz is 18th in the pole vault, Jasmine Burrell is 23rd in the discus throw, Alex Evans is 25th in the triple jump, Bozeman is 34th in the long jump, Josefine Koskinen is 36th in the 800 and Karen Snapper is 38th in the pole vault. Oudenaarden, meanwhile, is ranked fourth in the nation in the heptathlon and Reaser is 11th.
