AUSTIN, Texas - The 16th-ranked San Diego State women's track and field team competed at the NCAA West Region Preliminary Round on Thursday in Austin, Texas, and secured three quarterfinal spots, which will take place on Friday.
In the first event of the day for the Aztecs, SDSU had Deyna Roberson and Allison Reaser participate in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles. Reaser, who found herself in Heat 1, crossed the finish line in 59.61 seconds, which was good for fourth place. Roberson, meanwhile, was in the final heat of the day, Heat 6, and clocked in at 59.53. Roberson's third-place effort automatically qualified her for Friday's quarterfinal (5:30 p.m. PT) and Reaser's time was among the top-six non-automatic times, which earned her a spot alongside Roberson tomorrow.
LaQuisha Jackson also secured a spot in the quarterfinals on Friday, qualifying in the 100-meter dash. The freshman, who competed in Heat 2, posted a time of 11.58 to finish behind only Ashton Purvis of Texas A&M (11.56). Jackson's runner-up performance was good enough to earn her one of the 18 automatic bids into Friday's 4:30 p.m. PT race.
In the long jump, Brittany Bozeman, Nicole Oudenaarden and Shanieka Thomas all competed in three separate flights. Bozeman, in Flight 1, jumped 19 feet, 6.25 inches, and was followed by Oudenaarden's 19-08.00 in Flight 2. Thomas, meanwhile, covered 19-04.00 in Flight 4. The trio's effort, however, was not enough to get them to the three-attempt final.
Then in the 800, Josefin Koskinen completed the race in 2 minutes, 11.36 seconds, which was the sixth-best time in Heat 6. Overall, the senior finished in 38th place.
Day two action will continue on Friday beginning with the discus throw at 10 a.m. PT.
