PHILADELPHIA/LA JOLLA, Calif. - Shanieka Thomas won the triple jump championship to pace the No. 21 San Diego State track and field team Friday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

Thomas, who last weekend set a Mountain West and school record in the triple jump, won the elite competition with a leap of 44 feet, 8 inches (13.61 meters). LaQue Moen-Davis of Texas A&M finished second, more than a foot back with a wind-aided 43-05.00 (13.23m).

Kristen Brown, meanwhile, took second in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles and seventh overall in 13.68 seconds. The time qualified Brown for Saturday's Championship Final.

Earlier in the day, Brown teamed up with Alex Evans, Karsen Sper and Allison Reaser to run the shuttle 4x100 hurdles. In the first known shuttle race in school history, the Aztecs took seventh of 10 teams in the championship with a time of 1:00.45.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Reaser, Maderia Toatley, Antonique Campbell and LaQuisha Jackson finished 16th out of 60 teams in the heats with the sixth-fastest time in school history of 1:37.06.

Alex Evans also competed in the triple jump college section, taking 14th with a wind-aided leap of 39-06.50. Reaser was 19th in the 100 hurdles heats in 14.18.

SDSU was also in action at the Triton Invitational in nearby La Jolla. Jasmine Burrell was 17th in the discus invitational with a throw of 163-00 (49.68m) and 31st in the hammer invitational (138-02 (42.12m)).

Brittany Gonter, meanwhile, came in 16th in the discus open (120-00 (36.57m)), and Mikayla Howden (143-09 (43.83m)) and Alexa Evans (136-10 (41.72m)) were 27th and 32nd, respectively, in the hammer invitational.

San Diego State wraps up its competition in both the Penn Relays and Triton Invitational on Saturday.
