MT. SAC HEPTATHLON RESULTS | MT. SAC RELAYS RESULTS

AZUSA, Calif./WALNUT, Calif. - Freshman Nicole Oudenaarden set a school record in the heptathlon en route to a runner-up finish to lead the No. 21 San Diego State track and field team Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Azusa, Calif.

Oudenaarden compiled 5,774 points to break teammate Allison Reaser's previous record of 5,753 points, set last year at the NCAA Championships. The 5,774 points broke her Canadian Junior record that she set earlier this year and only two athletes in the NCAA have had a better score this season (prior to this weekend).

Reaser finished sixth today out of the original 18 entrants with a two-day total of 5,527, while Brittany Bozeman made a big move to finish 10th (5,146). Nebraska-Omaha's Sami Spenner won the Mt. SAC section portion at 5,806.

Oudenaarden, who was seventh after four of the seven events yesterday, began her record-setting day with a second-place finish in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 20 feet, 0 1/4 inches (6.10m) for 880 points. Bozeman, who was in 14th after four events yesterday, finished third with a wind-aided jump of 19-06.75 (5.10m) (837 pts.), while Reaser tied for seventh at 18-10.00 (5.74m) for 771 points.

Next up was the javelin throw, where Oudenaarden's toss of 146-05 (44.63m) bettered all heptathletes by more than 10 feet and earned her an additional 756 points. Bozeman came in third at 135-11 (41.43m) (695 pts.) and Reaser was 11th at 115-00 (35.05m) (573 pts.).

The two-day, seven-event competition ended with the 800 and Reaser clocked the Aztecs' fastest time, taking sixth in 2 minutes, 18.06 seconds for 850 points. Oudenaarden was seventh in 2:19.81 (826 pts.) and Bozeman finished 10th in 2:29.37 (701 pts.).

In the California Invite "A" portion, Karsen Sper remained in 14th out of the 34 initial entrants, totaling 4,825 points. Utah State's Chari Hawkins won in 5,441.

On the final day, Sper tied for 15th in the long jump with a wind-aided mark of 17-06.75 (5.35m) (657 pts.), was 22nd in the javelin throw in 87-07 (26.70m) (414 pts.) and came in 11th in the 800 in 2:24.40 (765 pts.).

Jessica McCall, meanwhile, kicked things off for SDSU at the Mt. SAC Relays by taking 12th of 20 in her heat of the 1,500 meters in 4:49.77. That was good enough for 156th out of the 171 runners in the Open U/O section.

Marianne Hogan ended up taking 14th of 28 in the 10,000 with a time of 37:01.43.
