COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Xander Schauffele (San Diego, Calif.) has been selected as Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played April 13-14, the league office announced Wednesday.

With his award, the Aztec sophomore received the first MW weekly honor of his career and SDSU's second conference accolade of the year after senior Tom Berry (New Haw, Surrey, England) was recognized as MW Men's Golfer of the Month last October.

Schauffele logged his second-best performance of the season, tying for fourth place at the 67th annual Western Intercollegiate last weekend on the scenic par-70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Scripps Ranch High alumnus shot a collective 1-under par 209 on rounds of 67-74-68, highlighted by eight birdies and one eagle across the 54-hole tournament. With his total, Schauffele was just one of six golfers in the field of 88 to finish under par.

As a team, SDSU placed fifth among 14 squads with a combined score of 40-over 1090 (349-369-372).

Schauffele currently ranks second for the Aztecs and third in the Mountain West with a 72.18 stroke average over 33 rounds.

SDSU will spend the next two weeks gearing up for the MW Championships, scheduled for May 3-5 at the OMNI Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
