AZUSA, Calif. - Allison Reaser sits in fourth place after the first day of the Mt. SAC section of the heptathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays to lead the No. 21 San Diego State track and field team Wednesday in Azusa, Calif.
Reaser has totaled 3,333 points after four of the seven events, while Nicole Oudenaarden is in seventh with 3,312 and Brittany Bozeman is 14th at 2,912. Azusa Pacific's Breanna Leslie leads the 18 entrants with 3,440.
Reaser began her day in style by winning the 100-meter hurdles in 13.56 seconds to earn 1,041 points. That was the fastest time by an Aztec this season. Oudenaarden came in 15th in a collegiate personal record (PR) of 14.43 (918 pts.), while Bozeman was 17th in 15.19 (817 pts.).
Next up was the high jump, where Oudenaarden led all SDSU athletes by tying for ninth at 5 feet, 2 ½ inches (1.59m) for 724 points. Bozeman and Reaser tied for 11th after clearing 5-01.25 (1.56m) for 689 points apiece.
Oudenaarden led San Diego State once again in the shot put by taking second with a heave of 45-10.50 (13.46m) and 758 points. Reaser came in eighth at 38-09.50 (11.82m) (649 pts.), tying a season best, while Bozeman was 15th at 35-01.75 (10.71m) (576 pts.).
The first day ended with the 200, where Reaser finished third a wind-aided time of 24.28 seconds for 954 points. Oudenaarden took sixth in a wind-aided 24.73 (912 pts.) and Bozeman was 14th in a wind-aided 25.63 (830 pts.).
In the California Invite "A" portion, Karsen Sper sits in 14th out of 34 entrants with 2,989 points, while Marissa Golliday of Illinois leads all at 3,426.
Sper was 12th in the 100 hurdles in 14.64 seconds (890 pts.), tied for eighth in the high jump at 5-04.50 (1.64m) (783 pts.) to tie a collegiate best, 25th in the shot put in a PR of 31-08.50 (9.66m) (507 pts.) and 15th in the 200 in 25.86 (809 pts.).
The final day of the heptathlon gets underway Thursday with the long jump at 11:30 a.m. PT for Sper and 1 p.m. PT for Bozeman, Oudenaarden and Reaser.
Jessica McCall and Marianne Hogan are also in action for the Aztecs on Thursday, but at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. McCall runs the 12th section (of 13) of the 1,500 (Open U/O) at 2:30 p.m. PT, while Hogan will compete in the 10,000 (Open-B U/O) at 10:30 p.m. PT.
