SAN DIEGO -
SDSU NOTES (vs. USD/at NEVADA)
Riding the momentum of a 10-game winning streak, the San Diego State softball team plays host to San Diego at 6 p.m. PT Wednesday. The Aztecs (22-12, 3-0 MW), who are receiving six votes (tied for 30th) in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, will then begin a nine-game road trip with a three-game series at Nevada over the weekend.
SDSU has won its 10 consecutive games by a combined margin of 64-16 with six of those victories coming via shutout. The 10-game winning streak is the program's longest since the 2011 squad tied a school record with 13 straight wins from March 19-April 10, 2011. The other two 13-game winning streaks came in 2003 and 2006. All three of those teams (2003, 2006 and 2011) made the NCAA tournament.
Nine of San Diego State's 12 losses this season have come against nationally ranked schools, including four vs. 2012 Women's College World Series teams. Additionally, the Aztecs have played 16 teams who made last year's NCAA tournament.
Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) leads the league in batting average (.406), slugging percentage (.792), total bases (84) and home runs (8, tied), while classmate Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) is hitting .400 with seven homers, 22 RBIs and 17 runs. Senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) (.346, 19 RBI), sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) (.322, 5 HR, 26 R) and junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) (.308) are also hitting above .300.
The 1-2 punch of freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) (8-5, 1.70 ERA, 94.2 IP) and senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) (13-7, 1.77 ERA, 126.1 IP) back a pitching staff that leads the Mountain West with a 1.94 ERA.
