NCAA INDOOR RESULTS | SAN DIEGO COLLEGIATE CHALLENGE RESULTS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark./SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Shanieka Thomas took second in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.

The St. Andrew, Jamaica, native finished second of the 16 entrants with a leap of 45 feet, 4 ¼ inches (13.82 meters). Kansas' Andrea Geubelle won the meet at 46-06.25 (14.18m). Thomas improved on each of her first four attempts, starting with 43-04.25 (13.21m) and peaking in the fourth jump at the 45-04.25. She then went 43-11.75 (13.40m) and 44-10.75 (13.68m) to round out the competition.

Over her career, Thomas now has finished second (2013), seventh (2012) and ninth (2011) in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and second at last year's (2012) NCAA outdoor championship meet.

Thomas finished with eight points in the meet, giving the Aztecs a tie for 25th at the championships, along with Baylor, Eastern Illinois, Kent State, Michigan State and Villanova. Oregon won the meet with 56 points, followed by Kansas (44), LSU (43), Arkansas (42.5) and Central Florida (30).

The rest of the team opened the outdoor season with a victory at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge in La Jolla on the campus of UC San Diego. SDSU won the nine-team meet with 208 points, while UCSD (197) and Point Loma Nazarene (93.50) finished second and third, respectively.

San Diego State won 11 individual events and ended the day with the victory in the 4x400-meter relay (3:55.72).

Jasmine Burrell led the way for the Aztecs with three wins, including the shot put (46-00.00 (14.02m)), discus throw (164-01 (50.02m)) and the hammer throw (151-10 (46.29m)). Allison Reaser won both the 100 meters (12.12 seconds) and the 100 hurdles (14.32), while Kristen Brown captured the pole vault with the third-best mark (14-00.00 (4.27m)) in program history.

Other SDSU victories on the day went to Renetia James in the 400 (56.56), Chelsea Kruthers in the 1,500 (4:40.46), Carrington Mahr in the high jump (5-06.00 (1.68m)), Nicole Oudenaarden in the javelin throw (141-11 (43.27m) and Maderia Toatley in the 200 (24.73).

San Diego State plays host to the three-day Sheraton Mission Valley Aztec Invitational, beginning Thursday with the multi-events.
