HONOLULU - No. 6 San Diego State had its nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Aztecs dropped a 20-3 decision to second-ranked Stanford in Honolulu, Hawaii. With the loss, SDSU falls to 20-8 on the season and completes its trip to the islands with a 2-1 record.
The Big West leaders allowed six goals in the first and second quarters to trail 12-0 at halftime. San Diego State managed to score three goals in the third period, but gave up four and ultimately trailed, 16-3, headed into the final eight minutes. The Cardinal ended up scoring four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to emerge with the 17-goal decision.
Juliana Matos, Taelor Moreno, the Big West Player of the Week, and Emily Whalen each scored one goal apiece for SDSU. Goalkeeper Rachel Mitchell, meanwhile, made six saves.
The Aztecs return to action on Saturday, April 6, when they continue Big West action at UC Santa Barbara. First sprint is set for noon PT.
