INDIANAPLOIS, Ind. - San Diego State swimmers competed in two events during opening day of the 2013 NCAA Championships in Indianapolis on Thursday as the 400 medley relay team advanced to the "B" final where it scored two points. It marks the third time in four years that San Diego State has recorded points at the national championship meet.

Four seniors comprised the Aztec relay squad that swam a 3:36.15 in the prelims to advance to the evening finals. The foursome of Leona Jennings, Katelyn Weddle, Gemma Johnson and Meghan Zimmer showed their consistency as they recorded a time of 3:36.16 in the B Final for an eighth-place finish to earn SDSU two points.

San Diego State's other competitor on Thursday was junior Mikaela Macklin, the Mountain West Swimmer of the Year, who palced 20th in the prelims of the 200 individual medley with a mark of 1:57.84. Her time was just .17 second away from qualifying for the finals.

Action at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships continues on Friday (March 22) with prelims getting underway at 11:00 a.m. (ET) and the finals session commencing at 7:00 p.m. (ET).

A total of seven SDSU swimmers will be in action Friday in three individual events and one relay. The individual competitors include Katelyn Weddle (100 breaststroke), Leona Jennings (100 backstroke) and Mikaela Macklin (400 individual medley). Representing SDSU in the 200 medley relay will be the quartet of Chelsea Bailey,Gemma Johnson, Katelyn Weddle and Whitney Weisz.
